Website: http://iidl.unist.ac.kr
Team Members: Yedam Ryu, Malika Gabbas & KwanMyung Kim
There are countless African villages inaccessible to education. There have been efforts for building libraries by donors or organizations. However, the number doesn’t satisfy the needs of billions of African children, because of long time to build and lack of finance. There should be an innovative way to shorten the time and overcome the finance problem. ‘$100 library’ is a prefabricated library designed to quickly spread across Africa with low production cost. $100 is enough to produce all parts needed to assemble one library. These are packed in a 1x1x1.5m box, so they can be easily delivered anywhere in Africa by a small truck. As assembling is very easy, it can be assembled by inserting, turning and hanging by hands without tools. Even without an assembly manual, it is easy to figure out where to assemble the parts, because their color and shape indicate where they should be. Because of these features, any two persons can build this library in two hours. As a core of local education, it will promote reading and naturally improve their literacy level. $100 libraries will be the first step for Africa to make a new leap forward sustainable education.

Generally, it is hard to teach and practice correct stances. Due to the complexity of teaching Seogi, Taekwondo masters used to exploit wooden bricks to train students as a support for stretching foot muscles. However, this approach is inconvenient and the way of training Seogi has not been standardized yet. Anybaro uses human biomechanical system to effectively stretch and strengthen upper and lower body muscles. Just standing on inclined foot plate alone will put pressure on calves and hamstring naturally. This is three times more effective than training on level surface. By stretching down on inclined surface, upper body muscles connected to hamstring are strengthened. Anybaro can be adjusted according to user’s ability. There are three main levels of difficulty: outermost, middle, and innermost support. Anybaro is compact, lightweight and ergonomically-designed. It is also easy to store, both at home and at gym facilities. Colors of Anybaro are inspired by Taekwondo belts, ranging from white to black, which represent various levels of rank. The main color of Anybaro is black, while circular covers are painted as white, yellow, green, blue, and red. Users can replace circular covers, as they improve upon their Taekwondo skills.

In particular, household drowning accidents occur more frequently in infants under the age of 1 , along with burn injuries and they account for the large portion of in-home accidents. Empathy strives to break the boundaries and allow people from different culture to empathize with the good of Islam. I quote, 'Rarely can a response make something better. What makes something better is a connection. When a society turns away from empathy, it loses its soul. So the big problem is when we stop taking other people's pain into account, eventually someone somewhere will do the to us and we when we feel that we most need empathy, we won't get it. The coin bank hopes to promote empathy in humanity and bring the gap of differences to a close. Company / Organization / School: Korea design membership / Chosun University
These days, not only the elderly but also the young are troubled with spinal disk problems or cervical disk. As people spend longer and longer time at desk, their problems frequently go for the worse than for the better. And those who concentrate in work or study at the desk don’t recognize their current posture. Therefore, having chosen the mode that lets the user recognize his or her incorrect posture and get it corrected, instead of the device righting the person’s position, I have designed the product by combining it with the stand that lies on the desk at all times. As it is a smart stand that uses big data that includes on its head an IR sensor which detects people, it recognizes the user getting astray from his or her correct body position and then bends the matching part of the stand, shadowing the human waist. The bendable portion of the trunk alone is made of silicone, whereas the center of the trunk is fixed with a metal frame. As the top portion of the trunk has a shock absorber in it, when the metal frame shrinks, it naturally strains and bends the silicone in the trunk.

Today, various ocean constructions such as marine cities, bridges, sea cable structures, and oil drilling facilities are being built every day. To construct these structures, divers must enter the deep sea and weld steel frames. The working condition under the sea is fatally dangerous. Due to unexpected tide, high pressure, electric shock and explosion, it is reported that 30 accidents occur per 200 sea water welding cases. Regardless of all efforts, it is almost impossible to achieve zero fatalities unless the human divers are substituted by robots. We designed MWR, which is a transformable robot, to save underwater welding workers. This robot has three camera-light units, three legs, and one welding and two auxiliary arms. The three propellers enable the robot to move to any direction easily. The power is supplied through the cable connected the tail of the robot. The operator above the sea can easily control the robot and monitor the working status through VR glasses connected to the three cameras. Umbrella vinyl wrapping machines are available in all buildings of the company, department store and bookstore. The reason why we recommend putting umbrella vinyl is to prevent umbrella rainwater from splashing on the floor in the building. However, when vinyl is used, environmental pollution and waste of resources are very serious. “ There are environmental problems as well as waste of more than 2 billion won each year. ” On rainy days, disposable vinyl is used a lot. Vinyl brings many environmental problems. Therefore, there are many electronic products on the market that will replace disposable vinyl. But you can't remove 100 percent of the water and also it's a hassle to use. Therefore we make ‘RAINDROP GET RIDER’.

Re-Fill replicates finger movement by interpreting the body’s EMG signals. When patients visualize moving their missing fingers, it stimulates certain hand muscles they never realized they had before. Re-Fill interprets these muscle signals and replicates patients’ finger movements accordingly. Two pairs of four-bar linkage systems implement a movement path for proximal phalanx and middle phalanx, as well as realize two degree-of-freedom mechanisms from a single linear motor. And the more user used it, the more sophisticated user’s EMG data signals became. Furthermore, the prosthetic appendage allowed him to see how each finger related to the others, thereby enhancing finger movement even further. In most society, people have difficulty accepting others’ differences. As a result, patients with missing fingers hide their disability as best they can, so as not to seem abnormal to their peers. Re-Fill can help restore these socially disrupted individuals to their former social standing

Rest Handle FinalistCompetition: Spark:Fall ConceptDesigner: YoungMin OhDesign Type: productCompany / Organization / School: Hanseo UniversityTeam Members: Kim Sang-hyeok, Hwang Hyun-kyu, Kim Ye-jiWhen you take a heavy load on an elevator, people leave their luggage on the floor or hold it for a short time when the elevator arrives at its destination. This handle was designed to carry luggage for a short time. The elevator space is already too small. So I thought about how we could do this with a little variation. Existing elevator handles only had the function of the handle. However, this handle bends the end at an angle of 45 degrees to stabilize the area on which the box is supported. The height of the old handle is also set to the height of the person's hand, so it is suitable to place the load. So you can put your luggage on the ground and have greater comfort compared to lifting it back up. We've added features, but with minimal variation, we don't harm the existing elevator interior.

Speckle Winner - Gold
Competition: Spark:Fall Concept
Designer: Echo Zhan
Design Type: Toy
Company / Organization / School: Art Center College of Design
Speckle is a crafting tool that mimics the experience of using a sewing machine for kids to create drawings. While reserving the iconic shape of a sewing machine, Speckle replaced the sharp needle with a stamp. Instead of moving fabrics, kids will be moving paper while stepping on the pedal to control how fast the stamp moves up and down. There are Ink pads of different colors that kids can choose and insert into the carrier. This process is also similar to threading the needle when using a sewing machine while making it easier for kids having small hands. Stamps are screwed onto the carrier, making it replaceable. Speckle helps kids get familiar with how to use the sewing machine without the potential risk of hurting their fingers. With speckle, kids can grab a piece of blank paper and create artistic drawings with different patterns and colors. They can also use the template to learn about a certain topic through the process of stamping, which enriches this toy with academic benefits.

This is a black pencil holder made from black to white color gradient design. On the one hand, in the process of being consumed, the black feeling gradually fades on the pen, as if the "ink of life" of the pencil is gradually receding, showing a beautiful disappearance. The disappearance is very natural, and because the process is poetic, it prompts people to make associations of what the pencil is used for, which is more of a good expectation ,that the consumption of good things will turn into the same good things. On the other hand, in the function of use, the dark part is always at the writing end. When people need to use the pencil as a temporary indicator stick to indicate the contents on the paper to others, they can quickly focus on the dark side of the pen and see the indicated content.

Recently, the proportion of rental cars overseas has increased due to frequent travel cultures. So accidents due to poor driving by foreigners are also increasing. For example, Japan uses a Right-hand traffic system unlike Korea’s left-hadn traffic system. Therefore, according to this article, On April 10, 2016, a Korean family touring Japan was involved in a car accident due to poor rental car driving. 6 family members were seriously injured in this accident. The unconscious victims were transferred via a helicopter from the accident site to Oita University Hospital for treatment. Toprevent global thinking, we designed a VR program allowing us to experience driving in other countries through VR rather than practicing in large space. Withthis VR, we can practice various cases againstaccidents by different driving points, signals, experiencing lane changes, practicing right turns and curbs, making stops at train tracks, crossing centerlinesto enter stores and parking practice. This VR program will ensure the people not familiar with other countries using the opposite handle can study about havingdifferent road signs and driving ahead on the left or right lane. So that lets users not feel uneasy about driving incountries with an opposite drive system.
