Cheers Boutique Limited Edition Beer Cans
Karl-Frédéric Anctil, art director/creative director
UULTRAA, illustrator
Featuring Agency, design firm
Catherine Roux, Boutique Cheers, client
“In an ever-growing crowded craft beer market, we wanted to achieve real visual impact both online and on shelves. We opted for a simple but creative design that really stands out at a glance and accommodates multiple small-batch releases by online beer store Boutique Cheers each month.”
Petite eau Vodka
Daniel Robitaille, designer/art director
Paprika, design firm
Distillerie Grand Dérangement, client
“After the launch of SAGA Grand Gin, Distillerie Grand Dérangement launched Petite Eau Vodka, the first organic vodka made in Québec. Its name is inspired by the origin of the Slavic word vodka, which translates to ‘little water.’ The traditional water crafts are symbolized by the miller, the water carrier and the dowser; their faces are veiled by a royal blue stream stretching from one bottle to the next.”
Danke's Easter: from our family to yours
Renata Alcantara, designer/creative director
Caroline Freire, writer
Marina Reis, illustrator
Nata Design, design firm
Ernesto Neugebauer, Danke, client
“Chocolate brand Danke has been a family business since 1892. For its Easter packaging, we drew inspiration from postcards of the late 19th century to honor working families on cacao farms by portraying them as bunnies. Custom vintage-style illustrations combined with golden foil and the brand’s pastel colors tell the brand’s story, values and its commitment to supporting family agriculture and ending child labor.”
Pondejoy
Rahul Bhogal, designer/creative director
Pophaus, photographer
Nothing Design Studio, design firm
Pondejoy, client
“Pondejoy, a Boston-based mochi donut company, wanted to create a brand that celebrated Korean culture and tradition that didn’t compromise on craft and brought a sense of joy. On the exterior, the design features an inviting bojagi (traditional Korean wrapping cloth) pattern that creates a distinctive visual code. We chose GT Flexa as the primary font because of its extensive type design, which enables us to create a stretchy, crispy personality—appropriate to the attributes of a mochi donut.”
Woah Dough
Dejan Djuric/Man Wai Wong, design directors
Morgan Kurchak, group creative director
Lisa Greenberg/Steve Persico, chief creative officers
Mike Tjioe, photographer
Gord Cathmoir, project director
Tahir Ahmad, strategist
Leo Burnett, ad agency
Woah Dough Inc., client
“The first time people taste Woah Dough’s gluten-free cookies, only one word sums up their reactions: woah. That’s the idea we wanted to convey with the design.”
Goshen Coffee Roasters
Shannon Levin, designer
Brian Hopson/Geoff Story, writers
Katy Fischer/Eric Thoelke, creative directors
Jane Winburn, project manager
Jerry Gennaria, strategist
TOKY, design firm
Goshen Coffee Roasters, client
“Goshen is all about bringing that ‘Good Sh*t Energy’: amazing coffee; good conversation; and recharging the fun, positive vibes everyone could use a little more of. To revitalize this brand, we imagined the meaning behind its long-established name, crafted a new cultural narrative and designed packaging that instantly connects with consumers.”
Manukora Botanicals
Timothy King/Peter Ladd, designers
Ryan Leeson, writer
Don Cleland/Peter Ladd, creative directors
Makito Inomata, photographer
Pendo, design firm
Manukora, client
“Looking to make a shift within the commodity-driven honey category and launch a new line separately from its already established mānuka honey brand, Manukora developed Botanicals, a product line inspired by the daily rituals of personal wellbeing that combines mānuka honey with potent ingredients such as elderberry, echinacea and ashwagandha. Our strategy was to develop a contemporary extension that worked with the apothecary style of the existing brand.”
Moon light - Gem garden
Shaobin Lin, creative director
Yanpeng Chen, photographer
Linshaobin Design, design firm
Gengming Ma, client
“Gem Garden, a high-end Chaoshan cuisine restaurant in Shenzhen, wanted a customized batch of Mid-Autumn Festival gift boxes for its brand of mooncakes named ‘Moonlight.’ The boxes reflect the concepts of moon and light through the hollowing of the outer box after a Chaoshan-style flower-shaped window and bronze-colored details.”
When in the woods
Emanuele Basso, designer
Beatrice Cristini, graphic design
Valentina Barelli/Elena Carella, writers
Emanuele Basso/Elena Carella, creative directors
Brand Revolution LAB, curator
Lazzati Industria Grafica, packaging engineer
Grafical, production
The 6th, design firm
Oasyhotel, client
“Oasyhotel is a luxury lodge hotel inside an area protected by the World Wildlife Fund. Respect for nature is crucial. Usually, sustainable boxes have a crafted feeling. This is similar to a luxury product: a welcome kit that turns into a game. Visitors can keep it and reuse it to avoid waste. The paper is MyCordenons Wild, which is very close to 100-percent pure cellulose paper. The boxes are all self-closing without the use of glue.”
Black Pumas
Jenna Krackenberger, designer
Anna McCaleb, senior designer
Rob Baird, chief creative officer
Tamara Stoddard, production artist
Marcus Davis, production manager
Amanda VanAntwerp/Grant Watson, project managers
Preacher, ad agency
Black Pumas, client
“Identity and album art for the self-titled album of musical artist Black Pumas. For the collector’s edition of seven-inch vinyls and the song ‘Colors’—nominated six times at the 2021 Grammy Awards—we created custom illustrations for each song on Black Pumas, drawing visual concepts from the lyrics. Each seven-inch sleeve became its own piece of art. The box set also includes a hard-bound lyric book with tour photography, printed in the band’s iconic red, black and white with gold-foil accents throughout that commemorate the band’s epic 2021.”
Verist Single-Origin CBD
Emma Dahlgren, senior designer/art director
Sarah Kearin, writer/group creative director
Shanna Apitz, chief creative officer
Bit Klecker, photographer
Shelley Wicinske, studio artist
Josh Johnson, production director
Hunt Adkins, design firm
Verist, client
“As a new brand in the crowded CBD market, Verist had to stand out to be noticed. Joyfully breaking away from the category-standard green, its vibrant packaging features a flood of bold red with a rainbow of accent colors. Tactile, collage-style compositions combine elements of vintage medical illustrations with a funky 1960s aesthetic, positioning the natural power of CBD as the medical revolution it is.”
Dilworth Coffee
Matt Shapiro, designer
Luke Rayson/Matt Shapiro, art directors
Neil Hinson, writer
Matt Shapiro/Robert Shaw West, creative directors
The Republik, design firm
Dilworth Coffee, client
“A coffee brand with more than 30 years of history, Dilworth Coffee roasts beans with a mission to provide the perfect cup of coffee. The packaging reflects the travels of Dilworth (a real person) around the world to find the perfect cup.”
Tennessee Homemade Wines Experimental Series
Red Productions Inc., photographer
Chad Michael Studio, design firm
Tennessee Homemade Wines, client
“The Experimental Series from Tennessee Homemade Wines Co.”
SAGE Aged Gin
Daniel Robitaille, designer/art director
Louis Gagnon, creative director
Distillerie Grand Dérangement, calligrapher/client
Paprika, design firm
“With a reputation built on its gin and vodka offerings, Distillerie Grand Dérangement repeatedly innovates with SAGE Aged Gin, its top-of-the-range, barrel-aged gin range. An affable patriarch is presented in a Caravaggio-like light that marks the product’s guiding line, and a wax-sealed cap establishes the product’s artisanal character.”
Nightfall Wines
Anthony O’Sullivan, designer/creative director
Influx Creative, design firm
Nightfall Wines, client
“Coonawarra, South Australia–based winery Nightfall Wines wanted to showcase its pristine vineyard environment in a wine package that would epitomize luxury, style and exclusivity. This packaging pays tribute to the sparkling starry night sky over the vineyards.”
Bird Creek Distillery
CF Napa Brand Design, design firm
Bird Creek Distillery, client
“Portland, Oregon–based Bird Creek Distillery came to us to design its new brand packaging, bottle and tasting glasses to celebrate the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Inspired by the majestic Mt. Adams, we created a custom glass bottle and matching tasting glasses with a punt in the shape of the mountain. Six collectible T-tops feature working compasses and images inspired by the fauna found on Mt. Adams.”
The King's Ginger
Stranger & Stranger, design firm
Berry Bros. & Rudd, client
“The King’s Ginger, a liqueur created from ginger root inspired by an original Berry Bros. & Rudd recipe first formulated in 1903 for King Edward VIII at the request of the royal physician. We revivified the packaging for the present day.”
Still Fields Brewery
Lisa Stuve/Mike Withers, creative directors
Jaclyn Roth, photographer
Still Fields Brewery, client
“Meaford, Ontario–based Still Fields Brewery focuses on traditional oak-barrel brewing and craft, experimenting with locally grown ingredients and unexpected flavors. The labels reflect the vibrant contrast of colors seen on the farm. Each label has a unique pattern, referencing the ‘barn quilts’ seen throughout the Meaford region—large painted signs on barns that tell stories about the people and area.”
YAMAGATA
Hajime Tsushima, designer/art director
Yukiko Tsushima, creative director
Takeshi Shimizu, photographer
Tsushima Design, design firm
Sake-Show Yamada, client
“Sake consumers have grown tired of traditional art labels in Japan. Introduced when sales were sluggish, this new label for Sake-Show Yamada’s Yamagata encourages consumers to enjoy an aged cold sake. The character in the middle is the kanji for ‘mountain’ in Japanese; we’ve put the character on the entire label surface so that the product can be easily understood.”
HAGINOTSURU R Series
Hajime Tsushima, designer/art director
Yukiko Tsushima, creative director
Takeshi Shimizu, photographer
Tsushima Design, design firm
Sake-Show Yamada, client
“The Haginotsuru R sake series features different tastes for the enjoyment of different generations.”

Alex Center, chief creative officer
Mari Juliano, photographer
Ashleigh Bowring, project director, design
CENTER, design firm
Kate Reeder/Marisa Zupan, United Sodas of America, clients
“By 2020, soda, the once-great American beverage, had become synonymous with dated products, corporate groupthink and out-of-touch brands. Where others saw a dying category, we saw an opportunity to redefine what soda means from the inside-out. To encapsulate our vision, we stripped down to the essentials: shape, type and color. The brand that celebrates the iconic in the modern, the premium in the generic and the freedom in choice.”
Daniel Robitaille, art director
Louis Gagnon, creative director
Leda & St.Jacques, photographer
Paprika, design firm
Distillerie Grand Dérangement, client
“From grain to bottle, SAGA Grand Gin perpetuates the memory of people deported during the Expulsion of the Acadians and pays tribute to the pioneers of New Acadia. The idea of a saga with its illustrious characters—whose identities are kept secret—gives the whole an enigmatic cachet. An iridescent yellow wax hides their faces, and a contemporary design takes on historical accents through the fine typography reminiscent of period newspapers.”
Man Wai Wong, designer/art director
Manasvi Abrol/Michael Pal/Steve Persico/Len Preskow, writers
Anthony Chelvanathan, creative director
Lisa Greenberg/Steve Persico, chief creative officers
Dan Purdy, editor
Mike Tjioe, photographer
Leo Burnett, ad agency
7 West Cafe, client
“After 30 years of delivering pizzas mainly during regular business hours, Toronto-based restaurant 7 West Cafe realized that incremental revenue could be earned by advertising that its pizza ovens run 24/7.”
Andrea Castelletti, designer/creative director/design firm
Cantina dei Colli Ripani Soc. Coop., client
“Named for the narrowest alley in Italy’s Marche region, Sangiovese wine il vicolo celebrates a place that challenges your sense of perspective. The one-color label presents a microengraved metallic silver re-creation of the alley’s cobblestones, and a watermark effect makes the label’s paper translucent. More than anything, its outstanding effect comes from the special die-cutting and partial removal, enabling a see-through result that showcases the wine’s pinkish color.”
Diego Carneiro, graphic designer
Os França, photographer
Fernando Moratore, 3-D artist
Moka Clube, client
“When specialty coffee in Brazil was only exported and never enjoyed locally, Moka Clube—the first Brazilian specialty-coffee subscription service—was born from a manifesto: Brazilian coffee for Brazilians. Using more colloquial language in the copy, the packaging rescues the Brazilian tradition of coffee and visually references the colonial period, rich in ornamentation and detail.”
Brent Schoepf, senior designer
Dan Olson, creative director
Studio MPLS, design firm
Vildmark, client
“Vildmark is a line of experimental liqueurs that bring unusual flavors to the forefront. We paired curious illustrations and a custom bottle with these inspiring ingredients, leading to an unmistakable new experience.”

Lion Bleu Microbrasserie, client
“How can one be both eye-catching and appealing among an ever-widening selection of microbrewery beers on store shelves? The Lion Bleu microbrewery’s design breathes life into the animality and color of its name. A noticeably happy and friendly bestiary takes over the Lion Bleu’s cans, representing the variety of its flavors.”
Michael Hester, designer/creative director
Keya Tama, illustrator
Pavement, design firm
Brooklyn Cider House, client
“Alcoholic cider producer Brooklyn Cider House sought to capture the contrasting spirits of both its Brooklyn-based cider house and its Hudson Valley–based orchard when reimagining its core packaging. We conceptualized iconic illustrations as the centerpiece of the redesign, each depicting the flora and fauna of the orchard in combination with the personalities of the staff and customers in an irreverent yet memorable way.”
Holly Gallacher, designer
Diana Prymack, writer
Stephanie Kochorek, creative director
Brendan Stephens, photographer
Jill Dewes, strategist
Daughter Creative, design firm
Annex Ale Project, client
“These small-batch labels have a visual style that feels fleeting, reflective of the ‘once it’s gone, it’s gone’ nature of Calgary-based brewery The Annex Ale Project’s beer. The flavor characteristics come through in individual elements of color, line style and placement.”
Christina Fischer, senior designer
Dan Olson, creative director
Brent Schoepf, photographer
Studio MPLS, design firm
Rishi Tea & Botanicals, client
“Rishi Tea & Botanicals sought to make its product family of matcha tea more appealing and approachable to consumers. Matcha tea has a rich history and remarkable benefits, but it can be an intimidating beverage to those who are unfamiliar with it. To help bridge this gap, we developed friendly and welcoming packaging that clearly communicates the artistry, intentionality and energy associated with matcha tea.”
Gémeo Luís, designer
Luís Mendonça, art director
100 Mistérios, client
“For seafood company 100 Mistérioso, Ati Can renews values of material and immaterial culture, promoting a high-quality product and recovering a fertile imagination. Inspired by the 1950s Portuguese canning industry, Ati Can was born from a heritage of shapes, colors, typography and patterns, reinterpreted in a contemporary and dynamic way. Respect for the traditional gastronomic heritage and ethical commitment is articulated with technical requirements, aesthetic and functional values.”
PepsiCo Design & Innovation, design firm
PepsiCo/The People’s Daily, clients
“At Pepsi, we have been deeply inspired by the courageous people showing up day after day for their communities affected by COVID-19. We joined hands with Chinese newspaper the People’s Daily to introduce and celebrate a new generation of heroes. As an homage to them, we launched the ‘Everyday Heroes’ campaign, a meaningful tribute expressed through commemorative can designs.”
Candice Papagiannis, designer/illustrator
Scott Carslake/Anthony De Leo, creative directors
Voice®, design firm
Threefold Distilling, client
“Two is better than one. Three is better than two. Threefold Distilling is a partnership of three exceptional mixologists, who equally create a range of delicious gins equal to or greater than the sum of its parts.”
Koji Matsumoto, graphic designer/art director/creative director
Grand Deluxe, design firm
Seiryo Syuzo, client
“For sake brewery Seiryo Syuzo, we created a packaging design using the motif of Mt. Ishizuchi—the highest peak in western Japan, which can be seen from the brewery. A folded sheet of paper imitates a three-dimensional scene of overlapping mountain ranges. Since the paper is thin and printed on both sides, the printing on the reverse is visible.”
Feng Huang/Xiaohui Ling, designers
Feng Huang, Changyuan, art director
Feng Huang, creative director
Zi Shi, photographer
Feng Design, design firm
Changyuan, client
“Created with handmade herbal paper to represent nature, the packaging for Changyuan Tibetan tea bares its essence by combining white tea and sandalwood. Our design used incense sticks and can be burned as a tea table decoration, integrating into the customer experience.”
XiongBo Deng, designer/art director
ShenZhen Lingyun creative packaging design Co., Ltd., design firm
Shenzhen Yanzhi Brand Management Consulting Co., client
“This alcoholic beverage made from five traditional Chinese herbal medicines can help expel extra humidity in the body. We re-created totems of five animals associated with Chinese medicine and printed them on the packing box, which resembles the traditional medicine drawer to emphasize the liquor’s pharmacological function.”
I Chan Su, designer/illustrator
Chi-Hsiang Lo, photographer
Midnight Design, design firm
City Explorer, client
“CHUTANG flavored syrup takes spices from Chinese herbal medicine and introduces them into everyday condiments, creating a new feast for the taste buds. The visual layout of the packaging is divided into three information areas using a grid system. High-saturated colors present the visuals, breaking away from the consumer’s expectation established by competing products.”
